Hey Reader–
Your home, their faith — this is how you tend both at the same time
You did the hard work this week. You sat with the version of prayer you grew up with — the heavy, performative kind — and named what it did to you. That’s the Tuesday work. Now comes the part I actually love. Taking what you’re learning and bringing it home.
Episode 65 of the Faith-Filled Home Podcast — “Healing Your Faith Is the Stewardship” — is out now, and if you want to hear the whole thing (including the part about my son asking ME to do BAM, which I still cannot get through without tearing up), go listen before this weekend.
This Week's Focus
God is safe enough to talk to. Even when things are hard. Even when you don’t have the right words. Even when you’re four and a half.
“Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.”— Proverbs 22:6 (NIV)
This weekend — after dinner, in the car, before bed, wherever you land — try this with your kids. No setup required. No right environment. Just a regular moment you’re already in.
“If you could tell God one thing right now, what would it be?”
Whatever comes out — silly, random, unexpectedly heavy, something about a dinosaur — that IS the faith space. You are not grading this.
If they say something funny or totally off-topic, that’s actually the point. They’re learning that their voice is welcome. That nothing they bring is too weird or wrong. And a kid who learns that with YOU learns it about God too.
YOUR FOLLOW-UP
“I love that. You know what? God loves hearing from you. You can always tell Him the real stuff.”
You just handed them a God who is safe to talk to — not the scary, demanding version a lot of us inherited. Just a God who actually wants to hear from them.
Put your hands in the middle like a huddle. Say together: “God hears us.” The physical moment tells their little bodies that prayer is something you do TOGETHER.
End your moment with a BAM prayer — short enough for even the littlest one to follow. Mom leads, kids fill in their own words wherever they want to.
Be Honest: God, we want to be honest — sometimes things feel hard and we don’t know what to say. But we’re here.
Ask: We’re asking You to help us know You’re close — especially on the hard days.
Magnify: And God, You are always listening. Even when we don’t have the right words. We think that’s amazing. Amen.
The God your kids are getting a picture of right now — the safe one, the close one, the one worth talking to, the REAL one — that picture is DIFFERENT from what a lot of us were handed. Reader, you are breaking the cycle one ordinary moment at a time.
Keep going.
This week’s Thursday episode: “Healing Your Faith Is the Stewardship. How Praying WITH Your Kids Creates Peace in Your Home.” We’re talking about what it actually means to steward your family’s faith — not perfectly, but honestly — and how the BAM prayer is the practical piece that starts to bring real peace into your home. (And grab the free BAM download at bemightymom.com/bam if you haven’t yet — one page, three steps, ready for tonight.)
You’re not behind. You’re exactly where your family needs you to be.
I will see you on the porch. 💜
P.S. — Did you get to try the BAM prayer with your kids this week? Hit reply and tell me what they said. Or better yet, send me a voice memo letting me know!
